SOURCES FOR FREE TREATMENT/SUPPORT:

Eating Disorders Recovery Support, Inc.Their Teatment Fund is available to all California residents who are in need of financial assistance in order to pursue or continue treatment for an eating disorder.

Kristen Haglund Foundation: Offers grants to individuals in financial need for treatment of eating disorders.

Manna Scholarship Fund: Another Foundation offering scholarship funds for eating disorder treatment.

MentorConnect: The first Global EDs mentoring community where those who are solid in their healing mentor those who are still in the healing process, free of charge.

Mercy Ministries of America, Nashville:  Christian based FREE treatment, but a several month commitment must be made.

Moonshadow's Spirit: Offers financial assistance to individuals who are seeking inpatient or partial hospitalization eating disorder programs.

Multi-Service Eating Disorder Association (MEDA): Provides National Phone Consultations to individuals concerned about their eating/exercise behaviors, and to loved ones of those struggling with eating disorders. A clinician who specializes in eating disorders will gather information, discuss questions or concerns and provide referral resources. Call 1-866-343-MEDA to schedule an appointment.

Project HEAL: A non-profit created by three young women intended to offer support for those who want to heal from their eating disorders. Scholarship applications for treatment are available.

STUDIES/RESEARCH:

ClinicalTrials.gov: A registry of federally and privately supported clinical trials conducted in the United States and around the world. ClinicalTrials.gov gives information about a trial's purpose, who may participate, locations, and phone numbers for more details. This information should be used in conjunction with advice from health care professionals.

Columbia Center for Eating Disorders: Free treatment available. A nationally recognized treatment/research program that conducts research studies on adolescents and adults with Bulimia Nervosa, Anorexia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and Obesity in an effort to better understand these conditions and develop more effective treatments. Adolescent and adult patients who are interested and eligible in the research will receive inpatient or outpatient treatment at no cost. The eligibility criteria for research participation vary from study to study, so interested individuals should contact the clinic to obtain more information. Currently, they are conducting a large study of adolescent girls with Bulimia Nervosa (ages 12 to 18 years) and offering treatment, free of charge, and up to $400 for participation. Weill Cornell Medical College researchers are conducting a placebo-controlled trial of a research medication for the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa. To participate you must:

  • Have Anorexia Nervosa
  • Be 18-55 years old
  • Be medically stable enough for outpatient treatment
  • Complete interviews and questionnaires
